What is the Bluetti AC70?
A Bluetti AC70 is a mid range portable power station. It’s a compact portable power station with a lithium battery designed for light off-grid needs. It offers a capacity suited for powering smaller devices like laptops, cameras, lights but can also power a fridge at home.
Fun fact: Bluetti actually stands for Blue =sky, T =Technology, T=Tomorrow and I = Innovation.
The brand has been around since 2012 and its mission clearly reflects its name.
Features of the Bluetti AC70
Battery Capacity & Power
The AC70 comes with a battery capacity of 768Wh and can power devices up to 1000W through its 120V AC outlets.
It has a moderate battery capacity for compact power needs. This makes it suitable to power smaller electronics and appliances during short outdoor trips or as a basic emergency backup.
In addition, it has power lifting mode that makes it possible to power heavier appliances up to 2000W.
However, the voltage drops to +-90V so this is only useful for appliances that are not fine electronics such as TVs, laptops, etc…
Instead think of a hairdryer, electric heater, kettle etc…
It’s also possible to expand the capacity of the AC70 with an extra external battery such as the Bluetti B80 Expansion Battery.
Ports and Connectivity
The Bluetti AC70 has multiple connectivity options for versatile charging and powering needs.
That’s something our POG experts really liked about this unit. Considering the low price you get a lot of options in terms of ports and outlets.
It has AC outlets for standard appliances, USB-A and USB-C ports for electronics, and a 12V car port, allowing compatibility with various devices from phones to fridges.
- 2× AC output: 120V/8.33A, 1,000W total
- 2× USB-C: 100W Max
- 2× USB-A: 5VDC/2.4A, 12W total
- 1× DC output: 12V/10A (car outlet, regulated)
Battery Lifespan
Like a lot of portable power station – or solar generators these days it uses a LFP (LiFePo4) battery.
This makes it last for a very very long time with over 3000 cycles until it reaches a max capacity of 80%.
Of course, the better you take care of your power station the better the lifespan will be.
If you charge is through turbo mode for instance every time, then the lifespan wil shorten.
Further, the AC70 has a battery management system (BMS) which includes a lot of safety systems against over heating or over powering for instance.
This makes it perfectly safe to use at home or indoors.
Usability and Design
It has all the important outputs and inputs at the front of the unit, in exception the AC power input on the side.
You can switch off and on the DC and AC inverter via the app or buttons on the unit. Be sure to do so when you are not using them because the inverter will also consume energy even when no devices are applied.
The display is very straightforward, which we like. You can read the DC in-and output Wattage on one side and the AC in-and output Wattage on the other.
In the middle it tells you how much battery % you got left and for how long the battery will last with the given draw.
This user-friendly design makes it a suitable power source for both beginners and experienced users.
Portability
Another great aspect of the Bluetti AC70 is how compact and portable it is.
It is designed with portability and ease of use in mind. It’s fairly light weighing around 21 lbs so it’s manageable for most users to transport.
The ac70 has a convenient handle at the back that adds to its portability without sacrifice its stackability.
Who is the Bluetti AC70 useful for?
The Bluetti AC70 stacks quite some features in a relatively lightweight and compact unit.
It is is ideal for users who need a lightweight and dependable power source for smaller appliances or devices, such as those used during outdoor activities, camping trips, or brief power outages.
With a balance between portability and essential power, it’s especially useful for campers, RV travelers, and anyone looking for an easy-to-transport backup option.
It’s also great for users who value simplicity, as it offers an intuitive interface and accessible charging options for both AC and DC devices.
The AC70 also has UPS mode which makes it possible to plug it into grid power via the AC input and powering appliances to the unit simultaneously. When there is a power outage the AC70 will take over in only 20 milliseconds.
In-Dept Field Testing
How did we test?
We’ve put the AC70 to our sequence of standardized test. This includes an AC discharge test, moderate device test, heavy device test, extreme load test, solar charge test and (fast) charge test.
Unboxing and First Impressions
The first impression of the AC70 when our experts unboxed it was that it seemed solid and heavy duty. It has a plastic housing but it feels qualitative.
We got the following items in the box:
- AC70 Power Station
- AC charging cable
- Solar charging cable
- DC charging cable
- Gounding screw
- Warranty card
AC Discharge Test
In this test, we connected a 250W small heater to the Bluetti AC70 and ran it continuously until the battery was completely drained.
We recorded an actual output of 705Wh from the AC70, which represents the unit’s usable capacity under a moderate load.
This result indicates an efficiency of about 90% of the stated capacity (780Wh).
This performance level is amazing and shows that the AC70 can reliably power devices for a substantial period. It is suitable for powering moderate appliances in various settings.
Moderate Device Test
For the moderate device test, we powered an 800W microwave using the Bluetti AC70.
The power station handled it effectively. These mid-level power demands tested the AC70’s capacity under moderate load conditions.
After running the microwave for 5 minutes, the battery dropped only about 9%, indicating that the AC70 can handle standard kitchen appliances without any issues and with minimal impact on battery life.
Heavy Device Test
In our heavy device test, we connected a 1000W cooking plate to the Bluetti AC70. The AC70 managed to power the cooking plate effectively.
The cooking plate sometimes drew 1100W but the AC70 managed to deal with that. So it is clearly capable to go a bit over its power capacity.
After approximately 10 minutes of use, the battery percentage dropped by about 25%. This indicates that while the AC70 can handle heavy appliances, extended use of high-wattage devices will significantly deplete its capacity. Users should keep this in mind for longer cooking sessions.
Consider a heavier portable power station with more capacity if your power needs are higher.
Extreme Load Test
For the extreme load test we applied the 1000W cooking plate first and then added the 250W small heater for a total wattage of 1250W.
The Bluetti kept on powering both devices for about a minute or so when the BMS did its job and stopped giving power.
This worked exactly as expected.
Solar Charging Test
During the solar charging test, we connected the Bluetti AC70 to a solar panel setup with a maximum input of 500W.
In optimal sunlight conditions, the AC70 fully charged from 0% to 100% in approximately 3 hours.
This efficient and fast solar charging capability makes it a great option for outdoor enthusiasts who rely on solar energy.
The MPPT technology enhances solar charging efficiency, ensuring you can quickly replenish your power supply when off-grid.
AC Charge Test
AC Charge Test
There are 3 different modes to charge the AC70 through AC grid power: standard mode (500W input), silent mode (250W input) and turbo mode (905W input).
You can switch these modes in the Bluetti app.
In the AC charge test, we utilized the Bluetti AC70 with its maximum AC input of 950W. It charged from 0% to full capacity in approximately 1.3 hours.
This rapid charging capability makes it an excellent choice for users needing quick power restoration, especially during emergencies or while on the road.
