What is the Bluetti EB3A?

The Bluetti EB3A is one of the smallest portable power stations that Bluetti has to offer. It’s a compact and budget-friendly solar generator to charge small appliances and electronics during outdoor activities. We took the EB3A on a four day camping trip in the snow and tested this compact off-grid power solution both in the field and in our “lab”.

Power Output

The Bluetti EB3A provides a total of 600W continuous power and can surge up to 1,200W for short bursts, allowing it to power small appliances, essential gadgets, and medical equipment. The pure sine wave inverter ensures safe and stable electricity, making it suitable even for sensitive electronics like laptops and CPAP machines.

Battery

The Bluetti EB3A comes with a 268.8Wh LFP battery. Thanks to this LiFePO4 chemistry (LFP) it can provide over 2500 life cycles before degrading to 80% of its original capacity. Hence, this translates to years of reliable off-grid power on many adventurous trips. When we received the EB3A it was charged at 56%. That’s exactly the way we want it to preserve the battery during long-term storage. The ideal battery % for long-term storage should be between 40% to 60% and it should be recharged every 3-6 months. So well done Bluetti!

A solar generator with 268.8Wh battery capacity is not much. We were curious how long it would last when we took it on a 4 day skiing trip with the camper van. Especially in those cold temperatures of up to 5°F (-15°C). We used it mainly to dry our ski boots with boot dryers for 3 nights. Every evening we switched on the boot dryers for several hours and switched them off when we went to sleep. In the morning we switched them back on for approximately 2 hours. Additionally, we charged a phone and a power bank once. At the end of the trip we came home with still 24% on the battery, without needing to recharge it during the trip! Of course, we used it economical but still we did not expect that it would last the entire trip without a recharge. We could have easily charged a phone a couple of times more and some other small electronics.

Note that the European version of the EB3A will only have 1 AC outlet since the European socket is larger compared to the American socket. Therefore, the American version has 2 AC outlets.

On such a small power station it’s nice to see the USB-C 100W outlet. It’s in particular convenient to charge modern laptops etc. We used the USB-A ports during our ski trip to charge the power bank and smartphone. It worked perfectly. Another nice thing the EB3A has to offer is the wireless charging pad on the top. Things can get a little bit messy after a few days in a camper van and especially cables tend to get missing. No problem, we just put our phone on the EB3A and got it juiced backup. Further, there is not much to say about the different ports on this model. For a portable power station this size it’s more than equipped enough.

Unlike some larger models, the EB3A does not support battery expansion, meaning users who need more power may have to consider higher-capacity models like the Bluetti AC180.

Design & Build

The Bluetti EB3A is compact and lightweight, weighing only 10.14 lbs (4.6 kg). Its dimensions (10.04 × 7.09 × 7.20 inches) make it easy to carry, and the integrated handle allows for effortless portability.

The casing is made of durable plastic, designed to withstand minor bumps and scratches. However, while the unit is not waterproof, it can handle light splashes and outdoor environments if properly shielded. Although, the casing looks durable, the only thing we are concerned about is the back of the unit. It looks like the back panel of the case could’ve been made a bit more robust. It’s the only side of the case that will bend a bit when pushing it. If the case would break due to a puncture or a fall it will probably be at the back.

The EB3A is very easy to use. All controls and ports (inputs & outputs) are on the front and divided into 4 zones: DC outputs, AC outputs, inputs and light. Each output zone has a button to switch the zone on and off. Make sure you switch for example the AC zone off after powering your devices because otherwise the inverter will keep on consuming power from your battery even if you aren’t powering anything. Further, the LED screen is very convenient and easy to read: Input (Watts) – Battery % – Output (Watts). A notable feature is the silent operation, which makes it perfect for indoor use, whether in a tent or a bedroom.

If we are critical about the EB3A then we would say that it doesn’t have a main “on and off button”. In fact it has 3 “on and off buttons”: every zone button can turn this solar generator on and off which can be a bit confusing at the beginning. In addition, to activate the wireless charging pad you need to switch on the DC output zone, which took a while to figure that out. And lastly the light… why for the love of god would you want a light on a portable power station? Of course, it’s very compact and portable but still there are better alternatives available to lighten up the dark such as a flashlight or a head lamp. Why not use this space to offer an extra AC outlet or something else?

App and UPS

With the Bluetti App you can control the EB3A via your phone. Nothing crazy here. You can switch the “zones” on and off, switch the power station off, change modes, and see how much Watts are going in or out and how much battery you have left. Hence, quite basic but it works properly. The EB3A also has a UPS function which will turn on when you are powering something while the power station is also charging through AC or solar. Therefore, you can use it for a CPAP machine, for example. If grid power would fail the EB3A will take over immediately and power your cpap machine.

Portability

With its lightweight build and compact size, the EB3A is highly portable. The unit is designed for easy transport, making it ideal for camping, road trips, and small-scale emergency power needs. It easily fits in a small space like under the seat of a camper van. The handle can be folded in to the top when not carrying so it won’t take any additional space.

How did we test?

We took the EB3A on a skiing trip with a camper van and tested it for 4 days. Field tests like this can give a lot of valuable information about the performance of a portable power station. However, influencing factors can play a role on performance such as temperature, humidity,… Therefore, we also test every solar generator with a set of standardized test in our lab to assess the EB3A’s performance under stable surroundings:

AC Discharge Test

We connected a 85W laptop charger and let the unit run until depletion. To be sure our computer wasn’t going into sleeping mode we put on the “Ultimate Mr. bean compilation 5 hours non-stop” on YouTube. We saw very volatile Watt outputs but most of the time between 20W-30W. To give our laptop’s CPU some extra work (= higher energy consumption), we started Adobe Lightroom on our computer, which is “heavy” photo editing software.

The EB3A powered our laptop for 7 hours 15 minutes until the 268Wh battery ran empty. In terms of working days this means you could work on your laptop for 1 working day off grid with the EB3A without needing to recharge it. A pretty good result. However, if we look at how many Watt-hours were delivered by the EB3A, we only read 150Wh on our energy meter instead of the advertised 268Wh. This means that when using low loads for a longer period the efficiency of the EB3A is only 55%. In other words, the capacity will be 150Wh instead of 268Wh. Where did the other Watt-hours go to? The inverter! A bit disappointing yet somewhat logical that the lower the load, the longer the operational time will be and the more energy the inverter itself will consume. However, we’ve seen models from Bluetti where the efficiency was a lot higher, even for small loads.

Moderate Load Test

In this test we used a 400W baby cooker. This is a device that can steam and mix food to make a meal for your baby. We wanted to see if we could prepare a baby meal without grid power. Here are the test results:

The EB3A did a perfect job. The steamer was on for 21 min and then we used the mixer for 20 seconds and we still had 48% of the battery left. The Bluetti EB3A was able to power this 400W device effortless. When the fans turned on we measured how loud it was. We’ve measured 47dB which you can compare with whispering. This was only measured 20 cm from the unit. We also measured a better efficiency during this test which is logical because the baby cooker was a higher load.

Heavy Load Test

Let’s put some more weight on the EB3A’s shoulders. We took a small kettle of 540W and a JBL charge 5 speaker, plugged it into the EB3A and turned on both the AC and DC zones. The EB3A passed the test without any problem.

Extreme Load Test

For our next test we wanted to check how good the safety mechanisms of the “battery management system” work. Therefore, we plugged a kettle demanding 1600W, which is way too high for the EB3A. Almost immediately when we turned on the Kettle it automatically turned off again because of the BMS system of the Bluetti instantly taking over and showing “overload” on the screen. Test passed!

AC Charge Test

The EB3A has 3 charging modes: standard, silent and turbo. Turbo means that it will charge at its maximum input of 350W. However, use this mode only if necessary since it will reduce the lifespan of the battery. Silent mode charges at 100W input and is ideal if you have this power station in the same space were you sleep and you can leave it plugged to the grid for a few hours. You can change these modes in the Bluetti app. For our AC charge test we used the standard mode. The battery was totally drained when we started and we measured input of approximately 270W during the entire time. It took approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to get it back to 100%. During the process the fans turned on a couple of times. The maximum temperature we’ve measured was 87.1°F (30°C). We also measured that the EB3A drew 290Wh instead of 268Wh during the test so this means that 7,5% of energy was lost.

However, we must mention that during our testing procedure, when we recharged the EB3A for the 2nd time we noticed a loose connection between our AC input port and the AC charger/cable. This led to a malfunction of the charging procedure where the screen showed that the EB3A was charging from 48% to 94% in just a few seconds. We unplugged it and made sure the connection was stable by lifting the cable up and then let it recharge until it was back at 100% (which took a lot longer than normal for 6%). After that it was fine but the loose connection stays a problem. We’ll give an update on this when we hear back from Bluetti about this issue.

Solar Charging Test

We plugged in a 200W Bluetti solar panel and got 165W input on a sunny but partly cloudy day.

Design & Build

The design of the Delta 3 is a little more up to date but nothing revolutionary compared to its predecessor the Delta 2. A lot of models look quite similar and that is probably because it allows EcoFlow to produce new models without rethinking the whole thing which makes it cost efficient to produce new models. However, we find that this makes it a bit more difficult for a consumer to distinguish different models from different product lines. The grey and matte black casing resists minor impacts and scratches, making it durable enough for indoor and outdoor use. EcoFlow used their new screen on the Delta 3 series which is also seen in their latest models.

A nice extra feature on the Delta 3 series is are the “storm alerts”. The EcoFlow app that is paired to your Delta 3 will give you an alert when there is a storm approaching in the next hours which gives you a chance to prep and fully juice your Delta 3 in case of an outage.

The most exceptional feature is probably that it makes little noise while power devices. This makes it perfect to use in a tent or in your bedroom.

Portability

The Delta 3 features a robust and compact design, weighing approximately 27.6 pounds. This is definitely not a heavy solar generator which makes it suitable for frequent outdoor adventures besides stationary use. The two handles also make it easy to carry around and it’s stackable as well.

How did we test?

We subjected the EcoFlow Delta 3 to a series of real-world scenarios to assess its performance. Here’s what we found in the following tests:

AC Discharge Test

To test its actual capacity, we connected the Delta 3 to a 250W heater and let it run until the battery was empty. It ran continuously for approximately 9 hours, which means it has an efficiency of 85% compared to the advertised 1024Wh. The other 15% of the battery power is used to power the inverter and fans.

Moderate Load Test

We charged the battery back to 100% and plugged a 800W microwave. We used the microwave for 5 minutes and the remaining battery % showed 88% on the display. The Delta 3 would be able to power the microwave for approximately an hour before running out of power.

Heavy Load Test

We connected a 870W toaster and 800W microwave, which is close to the maximum Wattage of 1800W that the Delta 3 can deliver. While the Delta 3 handled these devices well, the battery depleted in roughly 31 minutes under this high load. There are some similar tests out there which found that there is an overheating issue which switches the power station off automatically before the battery is empty. We did not encounter this issue and the surrounding temperature as well as the current firmware version probably have an impact if this would occur.

Extreme Load Test

Using a 2000W heavy duty power drill, we pushed the Delta 3 over its maximum output. The unit successfully powered the tool for short bursts but tripped the overload protection after 10 seconds of continuous use above 1800W.

AC Charge Test

From 0% to 100%, the Delta 3 charged in just under 55 minutes using a standard wall outlet, showcasing EcoFlow’s fast X-stream charging technology. It’s not that often we see charging speeds in reality actually living up to the advertised promise. Well done EcoFlow!

Solar Charging Test

With a 200W solar panel under clear skies, the Delta 3 fully charged in approximately 6 hours. This makes it a viable option for eco-conscious users or off-grid scenarios.

A nice extra on the Delta 3 plus is NAS server support and HID communication functions. These are particularly handy if you want a portable power station to power your PC for instance, which will switch on automatically when grid power fails (UPS mode). NAS server support and HID communication functions will prevent data loss when using it with your computer. It will send a prompt to the server when the battery is almost dead to save data before shutting down.

Battery

The generator uses an AGM sealed lead-acid battery with a capacity of 1200Wh (12V, 100Ah). The lead-acid chemistry is heavier compared to LFP or NMC alternatives found in other brands, but it’s a more budget-friendly choice.

However, battery lifespan of these batteries will be rather short. The battery lifespan is designed for about 300-500 charge cycles under optimal conditions.

The unit requires periodic recharging every four months when not in use to maintain battery health.

We particularly appreciated the option to charge it via wind power out of the box. This is something that most portable power stations on the market don’t offer. If you want to use wind power charging you will have to get the Nature’s Generator Wind Turbine.

On the other hand, the charging specs for all types of charging are rather low. Especially for the AC charging.

Design & Build

This generator is very heavy and large considering the 1200Wh battery capacity. it’s size is 23 x 17 x 22 inches with the included cart and weighing a mind blowing 120 lbs. This illustrates the cheaper battery being used in this model.

The build is not bad but not rugged either. The plastic housing lacks a bit of quality compared to other brands.

Also the LCD display is not a prize winner. It does what it needs to do but is rather rudimentary and of limited quality.

Portability

Despite its weight, the cart makes it relatively easy to transport. However, in our opinion a power station of 1200Wh shouldn’t weigh that much.

The cart feature is particularly helpful for setting up in RVs, campsites, or during outdoor events. Especially when using additional Power Pod batteries, which you can place on top of the Elite on the same cart (up to 2 Power Pods).

Its weight means it’s best suited for semi-permanent installations or scenarios where frequent movement isn’t required. You can remove the cart but it is a bit of a hassle to remove it and attach it again.

Finally, if you leave the cart on it takes quite some extra space in the trunk.

What is the Bluetti AC500+B300?

The Bluetti AC500+B300 is a high performance portable power station. It can be used as a home back up power system, for off grid living, or at a construction site.

The Bluetti AC500+B300 is a modular system unlike other portable power stations.

This means that the inverter and battery are two separate units.

The AC500 is the inverter and the B300 is the battery.

Also nice to know is that Bluetti runs the LAAF program where they donate an off grid power system to an African family for every AC500 unit sold.

Last year they supported 15000 families in 11 African countries and they are on a mission to support 1 million African families with off grid power systems.

Features of the Bluetti AC500+B300

Battery Capacity

First, let’s take a look at the battery capacity of the B300 batteries.

There are two different versions of the B300 battery: the B300K and the B300S.

The B300S has more energy capacity compared to the B300K, respectively 3,072Wh and 2,764.8Wh. However, the B300K has newer battery technology and improved features.

For instance, the B300K has a longer battery life cylce (4000) compared to the B300S (3500).

The B300K also has a lower $ for Watt Hours ratio which means that you get more Watt Hours for your money.

One of the main advantage of this system is that it’s totally customizable for your power needs.

Wether you go for the B300S or B300K depends on what you need. You can best make an estimation of how much power and capacity you would need. You can use our calculator to get an idea.

You could also expand the off grid power system up to 16.588 Wh if you combine multiple batteries.

Naturally, this comes with a cost as well and may not be necessary for your needs.

However, these “whole home backup systems” could be eligible for a -30% tax credit in the US. This means you could get rebates via the Clean Home Energy Credit.

Power Output

Now let’s talk about the AC500 inverter.

Where the B300 will store your energy, the AC500 will determine how much power you will be able to use.

This is where the magic happens. The AC500 is capable of delivering 5000 Watts of power and an amazing 10000 Watts surge power.

However, it’s important to know that this power output is only delivered when you have 2 B300 batteries attached. When you just use 1 the max output will be a bit lower 3000W-4500W depending on the battery model.

On the other hand, even when using just 1 battery you will probably have enough power for emergency situations or off grid living.

Ports and Connectivity

The AC500 gives many options to power or charger your appliances.

It offers 6 AC outlets (with different Amps and max. power), 6 USB outlets, 2 car/RV outlets and 1 wireless charging pad.

The 50A NEMA14-50AC outlet can be used to connect the AC500 with your electrical system at home.

If that’s what you want to do be aware that you will need the Bluetti 500AC Home Integration Kit.

Although it’s quite easy to install, you should let a certified electrician do the set up.

The unit also comes with 2 USB fast charge outlets which is nice. In addition, the wireless charging pad at the top is a nice plus which we like using on portable power stations.

The 30 Amps RV outlet makes it possible to connect the AC500 to your RV’s electrical system. This way it powers all the appliances in your RV.

Battery Lifespan

As mentioned before, the battery lifespan depends on which type of B300 battery you decide to work with.

The B300S has a battery life cycle of 3500 cycles where the B300K has over 4000 life cycles.

In both cases, these are very good numbers and even when you are a frequent user it will allow you to work with these batteries for many many years.

Usability

The AC500 is very user friendly. It has a touchscreen which also displays the most important info such as battery %, watts in-and out, Watt hours,…

The most important in- and outputs are on the front of the unit, which is good in terms of user friendliness.

A minor point is that the sturdy connection cable between the inverter and the battery is quite long and takes too much space.

If you want to stack both units (which you would probably do) the cable is not bendable enough to fit in a smaller space.

Even if you would place them next to each other, there will be quite some space between the two units.

Portability

The portability of this system is both good and bad. Not that clear right?

We’ll explain ourselves a little bit more.

The modularity of this off grid power system helps making it more portable. The AC500 inverter weighs 66.2 lbs and the battery 65.04 lbs.

If the two units were made in 1 it would almost be impossible to move or carry it by one person (assuming you don’t do power lifting).

So in a way the portability is good considering a high performance portable power system.

On the other hand, if we compare it to similar portable power stations like the EcoFlow Delta Pro, you have just 1 unit (battery + inverter) at around 99 lbs.

Although it’s heavier than the AC500 unit or B300 battery, it’s lighter than those two combined.

That’s why our experts have a bit mixed feelings concerning the portability.

It would have been nice to see a modular system but battery and inverter weighing around 99 lbs.

That would have been best of both worlds. So Bluetti if you are reading this…

However, it must be said that you will probably not buy this if you plan to go camping so portability is most likely not the priority here.

Home Backup

The Bluetti AC500+B300 is a good choice for home emergencies such as blackouts and power outages.

It’s expendable with additional AC500 units and B300 batteries.

Two AC500 units can be combined in a system with split-phase bonding.

Split-phase bonding is a technique in electrical systems that allows two separate 120V power lines to be combined, creating a 240V output.

This is commonly used in portable power stations to support appliances or devices requiring 240V power, such as larger home appliances, tools and even EV chargers.

However, some may not need that much energy capacity or power. In most cases your power needs will be less in an emergency situation compared when you are on grid power.

If you only use the essential home appliances during these events you can save power and will probably have enough power and capacity with 1 or 2 batteries.

The UPS ability of the AC500 makes it a perfect home backup system. The portable power station will switch on and power your home appliances automatically during a power outage when it is connected to your home electrical system.

How did we test?

We did several tests to measure the real performance of this portable power station. Hence, we can share our experiences and test results to provide a thorough Bluetti AC500+B300 review.

From heavy loads to moderate appliances, we wanted to ensure this unit lives up to its specifications.

Unboxing and First Impressions

Both units (the inverter and the battery) are packed in different boxes.

The components are securely packed with thick foam for protection during transit.

Inside the boxex, you’ll find the AC500 unit, the B300 battery, necessary cables (only when buying the combo pack), a user manual, and warranty documentation.

Both units feel solid and robust, showcasing their durable design. The clear labels and organized packaging make it easy to identify and assemble the system quickly.

AC Discharge Test

We tested the Bluetti AC500+B300 with a consistent 250W load using a small heater.

The system lasted approximately 10 hours before the battery was fully depleted, showcasing an impressive AC discharge efficiency of 92%.

This confirms that the device is well-optimized for steady loads, delivering nearly all its rated capacity in real-world conditions.

Moderate Device Test

Using an 870W toaster for 3 minutes, the Bluetti system delivered stable performance.

Power output remained steady without surges or interruptions.

This test demonstrated that the power station handles moderate devices efficiently while consuming around 43.5Wh.

Heavy Device Test

For this test we use a 1500W hair dryer which ran consistently for 15 minutes.

The Bluetti handled the load effortlessly, showcasing its ability to support high-power devices.

This drained approximately 375Wh, further proving its capability for demanding scenarios without any operational hiccups.

Extreme Load Test

In the extreme load test, we connected three high-power appliances: an 870W toaster, an 800W microwave, and a 1500W hair dryer.

The combined load surged to approximately 3170W, exceeding the Bluetti AC500+B300’s rated 3000W continuous output.

The power station maintained operation for around 10 seconds before the Battery Management System (BMS) automatically shut it down to protect the system.

This demonstrates the robust safety features of the BMS and its ability to handle slight overloads up to 5-7% momentarily before engaging protective mechanisms.

Solar Charging Test

With two 100W portable solar panels, the system achieved a 200W input under full sunlight.

It took about 14 hours to charge the 2,764.8Wh battery to 100%.

Off course, the solar charging time can be greatly reduced by adding more or larger solar panels.

The AC500 inverter can have 3000W max solar input. This would recharge the battery in just a few hours on a sunny day.

What is the Goal Zero Yeti 1500x?

The Yeti 1500x from Goal Zero is a mid range portable power station that can power a variety of appliances.

Goal Zero is one of the first brands that started developing portable power stations. Since 2009 they have became one of the biggest brands in portable power systems.

The brands is known for their high quality products.

The Yeti 1500x was already released a few years ago. Back then it came with some industry leading features. But is it still worth your bucks or are there better alternatives on today’s market?

We’ll answer this questions in our review.

Features of the Goal Zero Yeti 1500x

Battery Capacity & Power

Back in the day when the Yeti 1500x came out it was considered a high capacity portable power station.

Today, we would rather say it’s a mid range capacity power station.

The Yeti 1500x has an energy capacity of 1516Wh which means it will be able to power an appliance of 1516 Watts for an hour.

This is in theory of course because every portable power station will have a lower actual capacity.

This is because of ghost drainage caused for instance by the inverter itself that also consumes power. Later on, we test this in our efficiency test.

The Yeti 1500x can power devices up to 2000W in total, with surge up to 3500W.

With these power specs you’ll have enough capacity to use it for mid- to high range appliances in different circumstances.

However, the Yeti 1500x only has 2 AC outlets, which is rather limited considering today’s comparable models in the mid range.

There is an option to expand the battery capacity with an extra battery. Under the hood you would have to unscrew a panel so that the port for the extra battery connection becomes accessible.

In our opinion, this is a bit of a hassle since other models have this option available without having to unscrew parts on the unit.

Ports and Connectivity

The Goal Zero Yeti 1500x features a wide range of ports and outlets. This makes it versatile for both charge and power options.

The regulated Anderson ports also make it possible for using it in more customizable setups such as van builds. You could even plug it into your home grid system by using the additional Yeti Home Integration Kit.

It also has a USB-C PD port for fast charging and a 12V car port.

As mentioned above it comes with only 2 AC outlets which can be an issue. Of course, one could always connect a power strip to one of the 2 AC outlets.

However, for a portable power station this size and price range we expect more AC outlets nowadays.

Battery Lifespan

The battery of the Yeti 1500x is an NMC battery.

These kind of batteries are known to be smaller and lighter compared to other types like LFP batteries. On the other hand, LFP batteries tend to have a much longer life cycle.

However, NMC batteries have evolved over the past years gaining more life cycles.

We’ve seen this on the ZERO BREEZE ElecHive 2200 for instance which has an NMC battery that lasts over 2000 life cycles. This comes close to LFP batteries seen on some EcoFlow models for example.

The NMC battery of the Yeti 1500x has only 500 cycles until 80% efficiency. This is rather limited compared to some models today.

Usability and Design

The Yeti 1500x has an aluminium housing. Most other portable power station on the market have a plastic housing.

This is an advantage for battery performance since the aluminium housing will prevent that the battery will overheat while operating even without the fans turned on.

In addition, the housing is also more rugged and can take more rough handling compared to plastic housing models.

The first impression of the Yeti 1500x is that it’s a rugged build portable power station. The aluminium housing definitely gives it a high end feel.

In our AC discharge efficiency test we evaluated the power station’s real-world energy output using a 250W small heater as the load.

This steady draw simulates typical power consumption and helps to measure the device’s discharge efficiency compared to its rated capacity of 1516Wh.

Initial findings indicated approximately 91% efficiency, factoring in conversion losses inherent in lithium NMC batteries.

This is an outstanding result and showcased consistent power delivery and stable performance throughout the discharge.

Moderate Device Test

In the moderate device test we assessed the power station’s AC performance by running an 870W toaster continuously for 3 minutes.

This setup is designed to test how well the device handles a mid-range power draw and simulates real-life usage conditions for common appliances.

After 3 minutes the battery level dropped with 3%.

During the test, the power station maintained stable output and efficiently powered the device without interruptions.

This demonstrated its capability to support household appliances effectively within its 2000W output capacity.

Heavy Device Test

For the heavy device test we used a 870W toaster and 800W microwave to push the power station close to its upper output limit.

This test lasted 3 minutes and evaluated the unit’s capability under high-load conditions and battery capacity dropped by 6%.

The power station successfully delivered consistent power without any faults or shutdowns, showcasing its robust design for heavy-duty use within its 2000W continuous output rating.

The power delivery was smooth, with no noticeable voltage sag.

This proves its reliability when powering energy-intensive appliances typical of real-world scenarios.

Extreme Load Test

In our extreme load test, we combined the use of an 870W toaster, an 800W microwave, and a 1500W hair dryer simultaneously.

This rigorous test put the power station’s 2000W continuous output limit to the challenge with a total load of approximately 3170W.

The power station managed to deliver for a brief duration before tripping its safety mechanism.

It shows that while it can handle heavy, combined usage close to its surge capacity of 3500W, prolonged operation above 2000W isn’t sustainable for continuous use.

Solar Charging Test

In our solar charging test we used two 100W portable solar panels under ideal sunlight conditions.

The power station managed to reach a full charge from 0-100% in approximately 9 hours.

The system’s MPPT charge controller ensured optimized charging by maximizing the output of the solar panels during this period.

AC Charge Test

In the AC charging test, we evaluated the power station’s performance using the 120W power supply included in the package.

It fully recharged from 0-100% in approximately 14 hours, consistent with the specified time frame.

Additionally, when using a 230W add-on charger, the station completed the charge in about 7 hours, while the 600W add-on charger reduced this to a swift 3 hours.

Like a lot of portable power station – or solar generators these days it uses a LFP (LiFePo4) battery.

This makes it last for a very very long time with over 3000 cycles until it reaches a max capacity of 80%.

Of course, the better you take care of your power station the better the lifespan will be.

If you charge is through turbo mode for instance every time, then the lifespan wil shorten.

Further, the AC70 has a battery management system (BMS) which includes a lot of safety systems against over heating or over powering for instance.

This makes it perfectly safe to use at home or indoors.

Usability and Design

It has all the important outputs and inputs at the front of the unit, in exception the AC power input on the side.

You can switch off and on the DC and AC inverter via the app or buttons on the unit. Be sure to do so when you are not using them because the inverter will also consume energy even when no devices are applied.

The display is very straightforward, which we like. You can read the DC in-and output Wattage on one side and the AC in-and output Wattage on the other.

In the middle it tells you how much battery % you got left and for how long the battery will last with the given draw.

Unboxing and First Impressions

The first impression of the AC70 when our experts unboxed it was that it seemed solid and heavy duty. It has a plastic housing but it feels qualitative.

AC Discharge Test

In this test, we connected a 250W small heater to the Bluetti AC70 and ran it continuously until the battery was completely drained.

We recorded an actual output of 705Wh from the AC70, which represents the unit’s usable capacity under a moderate load.

This result indicates an efficiency of about 90% of the stated capacity (780Wh).

This performance level is amazing and shows that the AC70 can reliably power devices for a substantial period. It is suitable for powering moderate appliances in various settings.

Moderate Device Test

For the moderate device test, we powered an 800W microwave using the Bluetti AC70.

The power station handled it effectively. These mid-level power demands tested the AC70’s capacity under moderate load conditions.

After running the microwave for 5 minutes, the battery dropped only about 9%, indicating that the AC70 can handle standard kitchen appliances without any issues and with minimal impact on battery life.

Heavy Device Test

In our heavy device test, we connected a 1000W cooking plate to the Bluetti AC70. The AC70 managed to power the cooking plate effectively.

The cooking plate sometimes drew 1100W but the AC70 managed to deal with that. So it is clearly capable to go a bit over its power capacity.

After approximately 10 minutes of use, the battery percentage dropped by about 25%. This indicates that while the AC70 can handle heavy appliances, extended use of high-wattage devices will significantly deplete its capacity. Users should keep this in mind for longer cooking sessions.

Consider a heavier portable power station with more capacity if your power needs are higher.

Extreme Load Test

For the extreme load test we applied the 1000W cooking plate first and then added the 250W small heater for a total wattage of 1250W.

The Bluetti kept on powering both devices for about a minute or so when the BMS did its job and stopped giving power.

This worked exactly as expected.

Solar Charging Test

During the solar charging test, we connected the Bluetti AC70 to a solar panel setup with a maximum input of 500W.

In optimal sunlight conditions, the AC70 fully charged from 0% to 100% in approximately 3 hours.

The Jackery Explorer 1500 is a portable power station with a mid range battery capacity and power.

It’s capable of powering around 90% of your devices.

Jackery is an American company with their HQ based in California. It was founded in 2012 and since then they have been one of the market leaders in portable (solar) power. The result is 4 million sold units to date.

Features of the Jackery Explorer 1500

Now we don’t want to ruin the party from start. But we must already mention that, although Jackery portable power stations stand for quality, we didn’t really got blown away about the features of the Explorer 1500. And that even might be an understatement.

Battery Capacity & Power

The Jackery Explorer 1500 has 1534Wh under the hood and has a maximum power outage of 1800W, with 3600W in surge to get appliances with an electrical motor started for instance.

This will allow you to power most of your household appliances.

With these power and capacity features it’s a decent mid range portable power station.

It can be your savior for small power outages were it will run your essential appliances for a couple of hours.

More likely, you will use it to power your devices on a camping, overland or RV trip.

Ports and Connectivity

So far for the good stuff. The first disappointment starts by looking at the different output ports.

For a portable power station in this price range and with this battery capacity, the amount of ports are rather limited.

For instance, there are only 3 AC pure sine wave 110V outlets good for a max capacity of 1800W. In addition, this unit has only 3 USB outputs which is very limited.

What’s also a downer is that the Explorer 1500 isn’t expandable with extra batteries.

Battery Lifespan

Also the battery specs are not that convincing. They may have been back in 2017 but on today’s market it underperforms compared to competitors like EcoFlow, Bluetti, or ZERO BREEZE.

The Jackery Explorer 1500 has a Lithium-ion battery which has a cycle life of around 500 cycles until it loses 20% of its capacity. This means that after 500 cycles you will only get to use the remaining 80% of the battery capacity.

Although, this will take many years for most occasional users.

However, compared to the above mentioned competitors on the market you’ll get much higher life cycles.

Usability and Design

Looking at its features and design, it’s clear that the Explorer 1500 is made for beginners who want to use it out of the box without much bells and whistles.

This translates also to its intuitive display that shows only the essential things you need/want to know.

On the screen you can read the input and output Wattage, battery percentage and total time until charged or depleted when there are devices connected.

Solid and simple.

Although it’s not a very sleek design it does give you that outdoorsy and crafty vibe. Maybe it’s because of the colors that are similar to the ones seen on BLACK+DECKER product.

Who knows if the designers from Jackery found their inspiration when doing some chores in the house with a BLACK+DECKER drill in their hands?

Anyway, what we don’t like about the design is the large handle at the top. Yes it is handy to carry it. But it is also a killer to stack it in the trunk or your RV.

A cubic design with side handles for instance is preferable.

Portability

Yes, we should mention the top handle increasing portability. But we already did.

Further, it’s not the heaviest unit in this range but also not the lightest. However, with 35.27 lbs it is quite manageable to move it around a lot.

The unit its size ins’t that big but the top handle takes up a lot of space: 12.7 in (32.3 cm) x 10.4 in (26.4 cm) x 14 in (35.6 cm).

Who is the Jackery Explorer 1500 useful for?

Overlanding, RV, or Campers

The Jackery Explorer 1500 is useful for people who go overlanding or camping occasionally.

If you want to use your portable power station more frequently, then we would advice an other unit with a larger life cycle.

Also it’s made for beginners who want to use it “plug&play”. DIY people who want to fix their own solar setup for instance are not at the right address with the Explorer 1500.

Home Backup

The Jackery 1500 can be used during shorter power outages. For instances to run some devices for a couple of hours.

The same goes for the people who want to use it as power backup: if you like things simple and “plug&play” then this might be your thing.

Similar to all our other portable power station reviews we’ve put the Jackery Explorer 1500 to some test. This includes testing its efficiency, both for the in-and output performance.

AC Discharge Test

We charged the Jackery Explorer 1500 to 100% and tested its actual usable capacity.

For the AC test, we used a 250W heater.

It ran until the battery reached 0% after delivering around 1288Wh, which is 84% of its advertised 1534Wh capacity.

This is a solid result for a portable power station of this size.

Moderate Device Test

We powered an 870W toaster and an 800W microwave.

The toaster pulled around 850W according to the Jackery’s display. After running for 3 minutes, the battery level dropped by 1%.

Next, we ran the microwave for minutes, dropping the battery by another 1%.

This indicates the Jackery Explorer 1500 handles moderate appliances with efficiency, but power consumption impacts the battery more than lighter usage.

Heavy Device Test

We plugged in an air fryer rated at 1725W.

The Jackery 1500 handled this load without shutting down but was near its limit.

After running the air fryer for 10 minutes, the battery level dropped by approximately 22%. This shows it can manage heavier loads but at the cost of faster battery depletion.

Extreme Load Test

We pushed the Jackery Explorer 1500 to its maximum capacity by plugging in devices that totaled 1800W.

It managed this for around 15 minutes without triggering an overload.

Attempting to push it further to around 2000W led to an overload shutdown.

The Jackery Explorer 1500 handled high loads well, but it’s important to stay under its surge limit to avoid shutdowns.

Solar Charging Test

For the solar charging test, we connected a 400W solar array (2x 200W panels) under sunny conditions.

The Jackery Explorer 1500 took about 5 hours to recharge fully, which is close to its expected time.

With optimal conditions, it’s possible to charge the unit in around 4 hours using solar power.

A real downer on the Jackery is that it’s not possible to plug and use 3th party solar panels. You are obliged to buy the solar panels from Jackery.

This is also something that other brands these days offer on their models.

AC Charge Test

We plugged the Jackery Explorer 1500 into a wall outlet using the provided AC adapter.

The max AC input it can take is 500W. That’s also not that much in today’s fast charge universe. In addition, we only got around 260W of AC input. At least that’s what the display on the unit was telling us.

It took around 4 hours to fully charge the Explorer 1500 which is rather slow for today’s standards.

How did we test?

We did extensive testing to measure the real-life performance of this portable power station. Hence, we can share our experiences and test results to provide a thorough EcoFlow River Pro review.

Unboxing and First Impressions

When we unboxed the EcoFlow River Pro we noticed a well-organized and compact package. The power station was securely cushioned so that it arrived without any damage.

When taking it out of the box the build felt sturdy giving confidence that it will be durable.

It has a sleek design with a modern interface which enhances its visual appeal.

AC Discharge Test

To evaluate the EcoFlow River Pro’s efficiency we conducted an AC discharge test using a 250W heater.

This test was designed to simulate real-world usage, as some battery drain is always present, known as “ghost drainage.”

We should get 2.9 hours out of the fully charged battery. During the test the River Pro kept powering the heater for 2.4 hours. This means the Delta Pro has an efficiency of 85% which is quite good.

Moderate Device Test

We powered the 250W small heater and an 800W microwave.

The total Wattage for these appliances is 1050W so more than the max power output of the River Pro (600W).

This illustrates that the River Pro isn’t meant to power a lot of different appliances at the same time, nor heavy devices.

If you want to use it like that then you will meet its limit rather soon.

However, in X-Boost mode you can power devices up to 1200W. So we switched it to X-Boost and it was able to power the heater and microwave at the same time.

We let both appliances run until the battery was dead and we got 36 min of continuous power at 1050W.

Heavy Device Test

We did not do a heavy device test for the EcoFlow River Pro since it’s limited to 1200W (in X-boost).

Extreme Load Test

We kept the River Pro in X-Boost mode and connected a 2100W hair dryer. The portable power station switched off immediately as expected.

Solar Charging Test

In our next text we evaluated the solar charging capability of the EcoFlow River Pro.

We conducted a test using a 160W solar panel under optimal sunlight conditions.

The battery started at around 20% capacity. Under full sunlight, the solar panel managed to reach a consistent input power of around 120W. Occasional cloud cover dropped it slightly.

From 20% charge, the unit took approximately 7 hours to fully recharge.

AC (Fast) Charge Test

During this test we connected the EcoFlow River Pro to a standard wall outlet with the X-Stream Charge technology enabled.

From a low battery level (about 20%), the unit charged remarkably fast, reaching 80% capacity in just under an hour.

The total charging time to 100% was approximately 1.6 hours, aligning with EcoFlow’s claim.

It is a portable power station up for heavy duty. Actually it has all the features to be a serious power back up system for homes. It can power heavy appliances like refrigerators, air conditioners, and more.

However, it’s still transportable which makes it very versatile for many different occasions to use it.

The EcoFlow Delta Pro is for those who have serious power needs.

It features multiple output options, including AC, USB, and DC, with 3600W continuous output and a 7200W surge capacity.

Portability

The Delta Pro is a power beast. The downside is that large batteries also come in large and heavy sizes. It is quite heavy at around 99 lbs (45 kg).

However, it is designed with portability in mind. With its built-in wheels and a telescoping handle, similar to a suitcase, it’s possible to move it around quite easily.

But still, getting it in and out of a trunk for instance, or worse up the stairs will require some muscles.

How did we test?

We did several tests to measure the real performance of this portable power station. Hence, we can share our experiences and test results to provide a thorough EcoFlow Delta Pro review.

From heavy loads to moderate appliances, we wanted to ensure this unit lives up to its specifications.

Unboxing and First Impressions

When we unbox the EcoFlow Delta Pro we notice its robust build and size. It gives us the impression that it has heavy-duty potential.

Everything in the box is neatly packed and protected. The unit weighs about 99 lbs (45 kg) which makes it quite heavy.

The matte finish and sturdy construction give an impression of durability. The ports are well-organized, with a clear display that provides real-time data on power usage, battery level, and charging status.

Overall, the Delta Pro feels like a premium, professional-grade portable power station right out of the box.

AC Discharge Test

We connected a 250W heater tot the EcoFlow Delta Pro to check how efficient it is.

In theory we should get 14.4 hours out of the fully charged battery but real life usage always introduces some inefficiencies. Switching the AC ports on for example will start a slight drainage from the battery.

During the test the Delta Pro kept powering the heater for 13.2 hours. This means the Delta Pro has an efficiency of 93% which is very good.

However, for a unit in this segment and price range we would expect these numbers.

Moderate Device Test

We powered an 870W toaster and 800W microwave.

The toaster registered 710W on the EcoFlow Delta Pro display, and after toasting for 2 minutes, the battery level % did not drop.

The microwave also handled cooking a meal for 2 minutes and the battery level kept on 100%.

Compared to other smaller capacity power station, these appliances only take a small percentage of energy from this high capacity unit.

Heavy Device Test

For the heavy device test we ran a 1725W air fryer to push the EcoFlow Delta Pro’s capacity.

The test lasted for 10 minutes, and during that time, the battery dropped by 9%.

This level of power draw demonstrated that the Delta Pro can handle high-wattage appliances with ease.

The Delta Pro performs reliable even with large power demands. Of course, heavy use like this will reduce available battery capacity more rapidly.

Extreme Load Test

In this test we always push the portable power station to its limit.

We first connected devices like a 1500W space heater and a 2100W hair dryer. The EcoFlow Delta Pro handled the total load of 3600W smoothly.

When we added a 710W toaster, pushing the load beyond its limit, the unit automatically shut off as expected. The 4310W triggered the BMS.

After enabling the X-Boost feature we retested with all devices running simultaneously.

The Delta Pro successfully powered the devices at reduced voltage, demonstrating the effectiveness of X-Boost in handling high-demand scenarios.

Due to the reduced voltage in X-Boost mode it is advisable not use it when your fine electronics are plugged in.

Solar Charging Test

For the solar charging test, we connected a 2x 400W portable solar panels to the EcoFlow Delta Pro.

The unit efficiently captured solar energy and took little less than 5 hours to charge to 100%.

Even on a partly cloudy day, the Delta Pro’s charging performance remained impressive, although it took a bit longer to reach the desired charge level.

Overall, it demonstrated reliable off-grid power capabilities using solar energy.

AC (Fast) Charge Test

We connected the EcoFlow Delta Pro to a standard 120V outlet, utilizing its 1800W max input capability.

The charging speed was impressive, as the unit charged from 0% to full in approximately 2 hours.

The first 20% generally load a bit slower but the screen on the Delta Pro was showing some pretty high incoming Wattages in this range.

This efficient charging performance is a standout feature, ensuring that users can quickly replenish the battery, making it an excellent choice for those needing power on the go or in emergency situations.

Overall, the AC fast charge capability enhances the Delta Pro’s appeal for anyone looking for a reliable portable power solution.

Note that if you have a 240V outlet or a converter the Delta Pro can charge at 3000W input.
